HOW IT GOT STARTED
"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all" (Oscar Wilde).
It is no secret among my friends and family that one of my greatest passions in life is wine. Indulging in and sharing that passion gives me a giddy sense of excitement and a zip that can make me giggle on the inside with almost childlike joy.
Aside from the intoxicating aromas and tastes of a wine that can transport me to a new place or back to a fond memory, wine is about history and humanity. There are tales of conflict, love and exploration. It is about places and geography; geology, biology, chemistry and religion. Something for everyone, you might say.
For some time I flirted with the thought of doing 'something' with this passion (some might say obsession). I have talked about it, and talked about how about amazing it would be to write about the wines and dinners and people that build the patchwork of my wine journey. In fact I talked about it to the point where I almost bored myself without turning my spoken words into written ones.
Finally, The Sip represents my decision to do more than exist, and to revel in the joy of living and to share the fun there is in understanding and enjoying wine. We do only get one life and in the words of Mae West "You only live once, but it you do it right, once is enough".
